The UK Standard Visitor visa covers most short trips for tourism, visiting family, some business activities and short courses of study, generally up to six months. Some nationalities also need to check whether an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) applies to them instead.

Eligibility (high level)
- Genuine intention to visit for a permitted purpose (tourism, family visit, eligible business activity, etc.)
- Sufficient funds to support the trip without recourse to public funds
- Intention and ability to leave the UK at the end of the visit
- No activity that falls outside the permitted visitor conditions, such as paid work for a UK employer
